What is addiction? What is an addictive personality? How can I tell? What can I do? Can addiction be predicted, prevented, stopped or cured? Which treatment is best? How do I know what's working?
These are just a few of the questions today's foster parents ask when it comes to their children, and to addiction risk factors. Along with abuse, neglect, violence, incarceration and mental illness, addiction is a major reason that many children need foster care in the first place.

In being a Foster Parent, a Social Worker or Marriage Family Therapist, you’ve taken on a huge responsibility. Working with children in crisis takes patience, persistence, compassion, and education. Frustrating at times, this work has immense rewards. Knowing how to take care of somebody and watching them improve brings joy beyond words. Helping somebody from a crisis intensifies this feeling. This can only take place if you make yourself the number one priority.
What makes this approach different is:
Crises are handled “Holistically” – Physically, Mentally, Emotionally, and Spiritually.
A Developmental Model is adhered to – learn how past wounds effect our current lives.
Unresolved Core issues (that drive current crises) are worked upon in compassionate, and sometimes playful ways.
The responsibility for change is placed on your shoulders – the parent.
